ICJ can keep saying whatever they want, they don’t have any mechanism for enforcement though
These cases aren’t do/don’t. This ruling will likely give more weight to any government parties considering sanctions or other strategies.
I also hate that we don’t have any way to stop genocides from happening, but currently sanctions and trade pressure are currently our most effective/efficient strategies. Hopefully this ruling will be one more bit of pressure, in addition to other pressures, that will provide a path to a longer term solution.
I’m wondering if rendering aid to bibi’s genocide could yield war crime charges on members of foreign nations’ administrations? I’m not asking if it’s likely, I’m asking if legal mechanisms are in place for this.
I think it could certainly add weight to any future process to bring these leaders to justice. It will be more difficult to use the “we didn’t know” defense.

I suspected as much. Leads to my next musing: will the United States at any point begin to wonder, since the whole world is noticing, “Are we misguided in our policies? Is a course correction in order?” without being checked by external forces?

Agreed, from what Israel has been saying, they will not stop until somebody makes them.
And no one will make them if the US won’t.
For what it’s worth, even if nothing happens, at least it shows everyone else who are the genocide enablers.
