That’s cool and all but I honestly feel more inclined to leave… the Fediverse in general since it’s a perfect space to share propaganda extremely fast and most users will swallow it if it’s just populism from an entity that swears to be from the left.
Content-wise there’s just… nothing, it’s just news, opinion pieces passed as news and outrage about the shitty state of the world, I live in fucking México, if I want to be mad(der) I just need to look at the current state of my country and see there’s no hope at all.
The times I’ve tried looking for my interests on anything Fediverse I find nothing at all.
I know I could open a comm or something and provide the content (since I don’t have the resources to host anything) but, honestly, I’d get swarmed just for criticizing my goverment and the Fediverse isn’t exactly welcoming or friendly when they get fixated on something… also there are practically 0 mexicans (or it feels like that) in the Fediverse so I’d be posting content for the void.
I think I’m too jaded right now, but that’s the impresion I have of the Fediverse… and I don’t have the energy to pick a server and make ANOTHER account for something that I’m only going to check once a day.
Yeah for Mexico in particular I agree. I’ve heard that before - so you definitely are not alone there - but yeah there just isn’t a large enough base for it to really have taken off. Even your neighbors to the north don’t do much specifically, see e.g. [email protected] with fewer than one post per day, although Canada seems to have a lot more. Europe might have the most people here?
People were excited but the software development just hasn’t happened since a year or two ago. Kbin generated some excitement but failed, and while Mbin took its place it too seems to have stalled. Sublinks was even more exciting, promising to allow conversion of an existing Lemmy instance’s content into the new framework, but a year ago the developer had a baby and disappeared for a long time. Now I place my hope in PieFed, but it’s only slowly catching up to feature parity with Lemmy, even as in some ways it has already far surpassed it (though has yet to be tested at a larger scale).
That said, I cannot stand Reddit anymore - it’s too many arguments rather than facts or kindness.
