I tore through The Faith of Beasts by JSAC, really loving the new universe they’ve developed. Very much looking forward to rereading TMoG, Livesuit and TFoB very soon and the show being developed.
I’m reading book 4, Children of Strife by Tchaikovsky and enjoying it thoroughly. AT has been my favorite contemporary author for the last few years based on how wide-ranging and prolific he is. I discovered AT by reading The Final Architecture series, which is still my favorite series by him. Honorable mention is his Dogs of War series, also amazing.
Last year I discovered China Mieville by reading Embassytown, the mindfuck storytelling and intelligent prose blew me away. That book still haunts me and twists my brain almost a year after reading it. I’ve never had a book that still makes me think and feel strange months after finishing it. Perdido Street Station was also amazing, super fun and original steampunk world. Very much looking forward reading the next two in that series and digesting more of his catalogue, I think he’s my new favorite.
Also recently read The Prefect by Alaistar Reynolds, set in the Revelation Space universe and it’s also fantastic, really good stuff. Stoked to finish the series.
As far DNF I was surprised I couldn’t push through The Algerbraist by Iain Banks, I got bogged down on Jupiter just couldn’t keep at it.
My favourites so far have been Alchemised by SenLinYu, Red City by Marie Lu, and Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Unashamed. Just finished the two Ali Dawson books by Elly Griffiths this week. Quick and fun crime reads.
DNF The Chronicles of Narnia nor The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. The first being children being incredibly annoying to me (didn’t grow up with it so at my age now, I’m not the target audience), and The Grace of Kings just being far too slow.
A friend gave me Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, but I haven’t opened it yet. Maybe it’s time I give it a crack.
Though next up is Mrs Sim is a Killer by Kang Jiyoung. Picked that up from the library so I’m on a time limit. Will try to start that tonight.
Children of Time is definitely one of my top sci-fi reads. Enjoy!

I can’t comment on your favorites of the year so far but note most of the authors on your reply being female, that’s awesome.
As far as Narnia I haven’t read those books since I was child in the 70s and they impacted me greatly. Last year I did read the novella Put Away Your Childish Things by Adrian Tchaikovsy and it’s connected to Narnia, loved it. AT is phenomenal, enjoy Children of Time my friend. I love how many new AT readers CoT has reigned in. Have you read anything by him?
Oh… I didn’t realise that, haha. I’ve not actively seeked out female authors, perhaps I’ve just been drawn to female leads, which I think often goes hand in hand with female authors. Either way, I have enjoyed the listed books immensely.
I haven’t read anything by Tchaikovsky, but I will soon, especially with the +1s on this thread.
