To be honest, pointing a gun at cops is Darwinism in action. Haven’t looked into the case but the guys original point isn’t wrong, lemmy is just obtuse as shit.

It’s a sub dedicated to police misconduct AND has a pretty explicit “don’t defend the cops” rule.

It’d be as dumb as me going to a basketball community and pointing out that the game is for stupid, easily distracted children because they score every couple of seconds. I might not be wrong in what I’m saying, just being an asshole for where I’m saying it.

For sure, I’m not saying the ban wasn’t deserved as per the rules of the sub, but the point he made, intrinsically outside of its context, is not bad. Those anti-cop subs go so deep into hatred it’s honestly embarrassing.

I use lemmy pretty much exclusively on mobile, so I didn’t see the rule list when I was posting there. If I did I wouldn’t have bothered posting. To be honest it’s a stupid rule anyway. Any post that doesn’t support the echo chamber is immediate trolling and grounds for a ban? Stupid.

Keeping in mind I didn’t see the rules, I didn’t think it would be an issue to have a discussion about that specific instance and point out that it may not be the best example of what the sub is for. That’s why I found the body cam, watched it, and pointed out the specific time stamps that supported the article that was posted, and went against what the person I was talking with was saying. That same person who, it turns out, is also the mod that banned me. Yeah, I got snarky, but it was only on response to the snark that was directed at me first. And the ban happened after I posted the video proving the points that I was making.
