There’s so much Pokémon games should do, they are still fun if you haven’t played anything in the genre, but mostly they are just going on because of their brand power and nostalgia.

If it were me, it’d go like this:

Battle animations or a more comprehensive Pokédex?

The former will take more work, and the latter would be more beneficial overall, let’s start there.

We already have the data, the game uses it at all times. The game knows what types are effective against other types, base stats, what moves a mon can learn, where it lives, what its egg moves are, how it evolves, what egg group it’s in, etc etc etc.

The data is there. What we need to do now is have the UI/UX artists design a few concepts for how to effectively present that information, which again, we already have, to the player in a way that makes sense.

In the meantime, we can look at outsourcing animation work to support studios, because let’s face it, there’s a thousand of these little critters now, and see what they can do in terms of more robust battle animations.

At the same time, it’s a bit late to start adding VO work to this generation, despite a lot of scenes seemingly having been animated with VO in mind, so let’s get in contact with some studios that can handle voice work, maybe try reaching out to some well-known anime voice actors, since they 1) have the experience, and 2) often do VO for both anime and games, and 3) being able to tell people that Todd “Fucking” Haberkorn is in your game is a neat selling point.

And also, let’s make use of the Umbra occlusion culling that’s been in Unity for over a decade now. For fuck sake this performance is awful, we can do better.

Idk, I don’t like armchair developers, but I feel like I know a reasonable amount of development shit to be able to take a stab at something resembling a roadmap, as opposed to why they seem to actually be doing: fuck all :D

Haha, I think problem is more with the higher management than the development, unless they don’t hire any one who likes playing the game. When you are earning so much money without spending a ton on improving stuff, it can be difficult to explain the things that needs improving.
