Well this is prob the first right wing take I’ve seen that I’ve wholeheartedly agreed with since I was more of an edgy centrist like 10 years ago. Children shouldn’t be on sites like that, it’s utter shit for a kid or teenager’s mental health (an adults’ too ofc, but we’re old enough to make that choice and occasionally better at not being harmed by it)
Edit: me calling it a right wing take is kinda misleading lol. It’s not that they give anything vaguely shaped like a fuck about children or their mental health, they just think it’s somehow better when american companies buy/sell your data and use it for spying and propaganda than it would be for a chinese company. My only problem with banning Tiktok for harvesting data and pushing propaganda is that the same won’t be done to Meta for doing the same thing
Fidesz will be the one telling what constitutes as “inappropriate material”. This will absolutely exclude far-right propaganda, but include any LGBTQ+ material that isn’t showing them in an absolutely negative light.
The content providers have to verify the age of their users through ID, and they can could be sued into oblivion if they get hacked. Conversely, if a teen decides to either use an adult’s account, or in any way circumvents it, the content provider will be held accountable for that.
This will just lead to self-censorship to avoid massive fines, since Fidesz is currently too much of a coward to reopen the “House of Terror” for its original purpose.
Censoring innocent queer stuff like that is shit ofc, but everyone should be behind the second part. Children don’t belong on social media, or at the very least shouldn’t be on anything with adults. Requiring ID is a good way to enforce that. (edited to remove a superfluous bit)
Don’t oppose shit just because the other side says it, that’s what conservatives do, that’s literally the definition of reactionary behavior. Social media is an absolute fucking cesspool across the board as far as child safety is concerned, and conservatives putting their stupid fascist angle on it doesn’t mean it’s not something we should strive towards, because it very VERY much is
