The Cistern of Philoxenos, also known as the Binbirdirek Cistern, is a large ancient underground water storage facility located in Istanbul, Turkey. It was built in the 5th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II to supply water to the Great Palace of Constantinople. The cistern is named after Philoxenos, a Byzantine official who is said to have financed its construction.
