An alleged photo of an Il-22 shot down by the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the Sea of Azov has appeared online.
“If we say that the IL-22 crew are real heroes, it means to say nothing. I hope we will hear their story from the first person,” wrote the Russian Z-channel about Fighterbomber aviation.
Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny confirmed that the Ukrainian Air Force shot down a Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft and an Il-22 air control center.
That damage is very indicative of an anti-aircraft weapon. Almost all AA weapons are of the shrapnel variety, with the notable exception being the Patriot PAC-3 missiles, which are designed to actually hit the target directly. (Patriot PAC-2 missiles are of the standard shrapnel variety though.)
Better reinforce the parts that have holes in them!
/s, obviously.
hopefully a write off
Or maybe hopefully they push their luck, and send one of their most competent crews on multiple sorties in it after repairs. Why wouldn’t they trust the competence and morale of the repair and maintenence crew, or the wisdom of their commanders?
It is expected to be. Even if not the amount of repairs would take long enough to be an effective right off
