    I mean, if they pull it off, I’ll be impressed, but it seems like the “why?” is something they should answer before this project is undertaken. Sure, it could be used to power a moon base or something else, but I would expect that need for a power source to be the lead, not the power source. And if they don’t really know why yet – it’s an extremely expensive solution looking for a problem.

      Proof-of-concept? No use planning much if you don’t have a solid power supply waiting. OTOH, seems like solar would be a no-brainer.

    Will they end up “Space 1999”‘ing the moon and blowing it out of orbit with a massive explosion?

    They’re going to launch a lander with an RTG and declare victory for achieving the pinnacle of 1970’s technology.
