“It didn’t seem like it was chucked in there, instead it has been accurately put in the ground,” he told PA Media. “However, there were no obvious tracks around it and one would think that there would be a lot of mess around it, but there wasn’t.”

No one has yet come forward to claim responsibility for the Welsh monolith.

The monolith is back! I went to see one that appeared near me - an impressive art installation that no-one saw being installed.

I always figured it was a Paul Allen prank. the monolith that showed up in Seattle and then disappeared, both without witnesses, only someone with lots of resources could have done that and he spent a lot of money doing fun public things in Seattle. Plus he collected a bunch of movie memorabilia. His movie theater would have displays of it.

And hed run a movie marathon , every year, that always included 2001

You just know that when the guy was interviewed he was probably asked 12 different ways how to describe it when he first saw it and casually said something like “I didn’t know what it was, I guess it looked like a UFO or something.” And the journalist thought that was just the best headline material ever to hook people in a totally-not-deceptive way.

A story that’s a good mystery all on its own is always so much better when you add “But what if… Aliens!!! 👽👽😱” on top of it. /s
