Believe I read the other day that Uruguay is now using 100% renewables. Guess they just have what it takes. Doesn’t seem to have made any headlines, though. NIMBY I guess.
The story of Uruguay is inspiring but it’s not utopia. Iirc, energy prices are pretty high and the erection of wind turbines on farmland resulted in more money/power for large land owners, increasing inequality somewhat.
Uraguay started with a fairly large fraction of their electric generation being hydropower, which makes it a lot easier than it is in most places.
