It’s been nearly 20 years, makes me sad to think of all the jokes he would’ve told in that time

He also said he did not do anything wrong and planned to appeal his conviction.

That’s a pretty common thing for people in prison to say.

he says the vegan food he’s served is inedible

So he rips off the rich and now he wants to harass vegans too?

Does he think the non-vegan food is actually better? He’s not going to get Michelin star meals, he’s going to get the bare minimum necessary. It’s jail.

Yeah, I’d expect it to be largely unseasoned beans and rice, or lentils. Basically whatever is nutritionally complete (except enough calories, those cost extra), dirt cheap, and fulfills dietary restrictions.

Now if he wants to campaign for better prison food, I totally support that and he should join IWOC (Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee, it works with the IWW) to fight for it. He’s gonna be in there a long time and he does have power and voice that many in there don’t. If he uses it for all prisoners then good on him, if he only uses it for himself then he can go fuck himself.

Am I the only one amused that his name is bankman?

Fun fact, he was born as Sam Cryptoman-Fried but he changed his name to get more mainstream acceptance

The punchline is “to sound less Jewish.” (I realize that’s usually an Ellis Island joke)

as they should. they’re already in prison. they’re still people who need stimulus and entertainment.

Yeah, I’ve sent books to prisoners before and it’s disturbing how bad it is. The most requested book is an English-Spanish dictionary so they can talk to the people in there with them.

The concept of a penitentiary is to give them time to think and repent. I think it’s off base, but it’s not a bad idea. Give them philosophy and books that can give them skills, good models, good ideas, and yes entertainment.

Yeah, I have more issues with the fact that most people don’t have access to any of that (provided it can’t be use to run a crime network on the outside or whatever).

All my heroin friends have/had tablets in my state prison system. County jails here blow dick and don’t have anything like that, but even the normal people prisons do. The future is now old man or something.

Generally you have to pay out the ass for that stuff in prison, but I imagine he still has some money.
