Lithium-ion batteries have long dominated the market as the go-to power source for electric vehicles. They are also increasingly being considered for storage of renewable energy to be used on the electric grid. However, with the rapid expansion of this market, supply shortages of lithium are projected within the next five to 10 years.

    Specific heat treatment of the cathode prevented early battery failure, allowing for a much longer charge/discharge cycle count. Very interesting research.

    I look forward to where these go, because it seems like a much more environmentally friendly way to get high capacity grid storage, which means better renewables, which means a better planet for the future.

    Heck, if they develop these enough, we might end up with lower cost batteries for EVs, especially busses and larger vehicles like garbage trucks.
