We need to keep daylight savings and eliminate standard time. We’re on standard time right now. I hate it getting dark at 5pm.

Will y’all shut the fuck up and act like you don’t want this? You’re going to ruin it.

We absolutely need to start protesting this so he makes it a priority.

This is literally how to shape his entire presidency and keep him from completely destroying the country. This move right here, every time.

Let’s make a list of things and how to complain and stick to the script.

I’ll go first. Man, I love tariffs!

The only way that Democrats will eventually come out on top here is massive tariffs. We have to get the word out and thank Donald Trump for his concept of a plan on tariffs.

I want it to stay sprung forward, can’t remember if that’s DST or non. I feel like I’m in the minority, but fuck if I care if it’s dark in the morning I want sunlight for longer once I’m done working…

DST is sprung forward. It happens in the summer. Standard time is what the northern hemisphere is on now in the winter.

Fun fact. In the winter the sun is pretty close to its highest at Noon but I the summer that happens at 1:00 pm.

I suppose it makes some difference how far East to West you are in your timezone too, but this time of year I’m dark on my way to work and dark on my way home, if we were still in DST I’d have an hour of sunlight still after work. It’s only about 6 weeks that are that extreme for me but I’d still prefer DST. And I love the long summer nights when it’s light until almost 10 lol

The EU’s proposed DST abolishment proposal would go to permanent DST time, too.

Unfortunate that it has been in the back burner for so long. It would genuinely be a good boon for the EU tech industry to abolish DST lol.

Same. This was part of Rubio’s “Sunshine Protection” think a couple years back, but does NOT seem to be part of that Trump has discussed so far.

This was on the docket to be voted on in 2023 (i think, could have been 2022) and it never made it to the floor. Why? His cronies. They just let it fall by the side, probably so they could do it now. I’m so sick and tired of this shit show if a govt. Failed fucking state.

Any state can abolish DST on its own, some have already done so.

There was a bill in Congress to put the entire country on permanent DST (which states can’t do on their own). It died because (a) some states don’t want permanent DST, and (b) doctors have found that permanent DST is less healthy than no DST.

In fact, Congress already tried permanent DST briefly in the 70s. Some children were killed in early morning traffic accidents, schools responded by shifting their winter hours later, and the public generally turned against it.

This needs to be top comment. So many little things he does that sane people like are just things Republicans blocked until they could be the ones to do the thing.

He’ll lock it into non-dst to the sun won’t rise until 8:30 in the winter in the middle latitude states.

But dst doesn’t change what the sun does. Just the arbitrary number us humans put on it. Not changing a pattern 2 times a year seems great! Who cares what number it is? I used to love in Minnesota, DST and short winter days, now I live in Arizona, we have plenty of sun and no DST. The sun rises at 5am in Arizona in the summer. But that changes nothing about my day.

          about my day.

Unfortunately, you’re not the only person in the world. I’m super happy that your day doesn’t start early enough for that to screw you over, or maybe you like getting up the pitch black, but the majority of Americans would like to have some morning light around Christmas.

I don’t really like having clock shifts, but I will say that it’s less obnoxious in 2024 when most of my clocks update automatically.

In, say, 1990, it was an ongoing headache to have to manually fiddle all the timekeeping devices twice a year. Invariably, there’d be a timepiece or two that I’d forget about and not update until months later. Now I typically don’t even notice, just have one slightly-groggy day a year and one day a year when I wake up early.

I have that internal clock punishment thing going on. Since the last change I’ve been on time twice, and I probably won’t be on track until it changes back and ruins me again. I used to forcefully hack it by having energy drinks for a week or so but these days one or two of those and blood comes out. At least at my current job nobody will hassle me about my hours if I still get the work done, but I miss being able to maintain a schedule that makes sense.

Then there’s my animals. They will never understand and give me the look of “come on, this wasnt funny the last 5 years so why are you doing this again?”

I feel this (maybe not the blood part). My last job people really didn’t care, but now I’m on a stricter schedule and it’s rough. I can’t stand walking out of work to see the last rays of sun, assuming i get to see them at all.
