Well, actually my dog found it, but I got a short video.
Looks like a vole (I think they are sometimes called field mice too). They make runs in the grass (essentially shallow tunnels that aren’t really underground but through the thatch layer of grass) and eat the roots of plants near the ground surface, often doing a good bit of damage to shrubs and trees.
That stubby tail is a pretty good indication, looks like a vole.
I thought that might be what it was, but I forgot the word “vole”.
I also couldn’t think of the word “vole”. My thought process was “Is that a mole? No, I think it’s that thing that rhymes with ‘mole’. Uhhhh… Bowl, coal, dole, foal, goal, hole…”
Of course it wouldn’t be until almost the end of the alphabet lol
