I think disabling the feature rather than crippling it is really the only option other than exiting the UK market. At least this change seem to be UK specific but I suspect more countries will follow

As someone in the UK, do it, make the many government officials using apple devices realize their mistake and maybe rethink their laws

Honestly I wish more companies had the courage to pull out of a market. Sure it will hurt profits but it would make a point. Honestly the PR benefits probably would make up for the lost revenue.

I’m not in the apple ecosystem.

Do apple customers have voice messages, emails, call logs etc from my interactions with them stored on iCloud?

Wow, the Brits are really killing it. (The internet.) First smaller forums having to shut down, the Fediverse needing to defederate and block UK users (at least technically). And now they also disable cloud encryption… But I guess they’ve always lead the way with surveillance tech, porn filters on residential internet connections etc.

Honestly it is pretty concerning given that the UK has a decent amount of influence.

What kind of influence are you referring to? On how the internet gets shaped in the future? Or society and politics, or as part of the Five Eyes?
