Hey everyone! first post here since coming from r/flashlight. If my post look weird please forgive me as this is my first time/post on Lemmy.
I decided to swap both of my ZL today. 519A 3500dd and 519A 5700dd. Had a total of 3 SC64cLE and I only won the tint lottery of 1/3. I kept the most neutral to my eyes alone.
Decided to polish the bezel as well for a cleaner look.
PS: I’m sure no one cares, but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone here, active users, those who have contributed to the sub and those who helped me out tremendously on learning how to mod flashlights. The discussion over on reddit seemed extremely toxic to me and I don’t remember that sub being that way at all back then. I decided to jump over to lemmy and everything seems similar for the most part. Hope to continue my hobby here if reddit fails. Cheers!
Nice! Is this your first time modding a Zebra? What did you use to pry the bezel and what did you use to swap the emitter? Did you try to pack the potting stuff back in place afterwards?
No this is like my third time with the zebras. I used a really thin 4mm flat head driver and went around in circles until the bezel popped off. I then used my hot air for reflowing. As for the potting I only put back the potting on the underside of it. I would like to put the top potting back on but I don’t think not possible. I’m sure modding it would lose some of its “tankiness” that ZL is known for. I would like to see if I can find some electronic potting mix to re-do it.
Damn, good job. That’s no easy task. They look great.
Sorry to hear about your experience on the subreddit. Typically it’s not like that at all.
I can’t get enough of the 519A, but I didn’t initially understand the hype around dedoming them… and then I got a D4K dual channel with both ends of the 519A spectrum but dedomed.
I get it now.
Which CCT are you liking more?
I personally prefer the 5700dd when daily EDC around the city for work. When I walk the dogs at night I prefer the 3500dd more as there’s a lot of trees and bushes at my park. The warmer tint makes the colors vibrant at night for me.
Nice job!
Thank you! love seeing your post and data input that I’ve come across on BLF
