        I don’t know how far we should/need to go … but all I do know is that the current state of mergers, consolidations and cartels in a lot of industries is, well ‘too much’. I don’t pretend to know what the proper balance is but it certainly ain’t what we have today.

        Take the recent news of RAM price explosions and Micron just stopping sales to retail for their RAM products. RAM is such a critical item in today’s world there almost should be some guarantee enforced by governments that it remains affordable for people; we can’t live in modern society without affordable computing devices.

          I wish that were true. But look at modern society: we’re moving to a model where you put yourself in debt to a corporation to receive a service, and they loan you hardware you could never afford to purchase yourself.

          Crucial is no longer crucial.

    I still remember when Netflix was that mail order DVD company that was giving RedBox a run for their money. And now they own the production companies.

      I remember when Netflix split their DVD and streaming into separate services and their stock tanked.

      I was thinking of grabbing some stock back then when that happened, but they didn’t make it as easy to buy stock compared to now so I didn’t bother.

      I wish I looked into it further.

      I remember when Redbox wanted to buy Netflix’s DvD by mail business, and Netflix said no, we’d rather kill it off.

    It’s not a done deal yet, your headline makes it sound like it just went through and it hasn’t yet. It could take a while depending on the regulatory hurdles.

    No they haven’t, not yet anyway. The initial handshake has been made, but there are still legal challenges to the deal. I wish OP had just posted the original, more accurate headline.

        While starting to actively block casting. Because you know, going to a vacation home and logging into a foreign device is a million times safer than just plugging in your own Chromecast.

        Forcing people to buy smart TVs so they can watch your content ( or enable the smart function so they might get bombarded with ads ) is great customer service.

        Just like telling everybody to share accounts with friends and family and then doing a 180 and complain that you’re losing money over this and we should pay more.

        I have a hunch that 2026 will be the year off “piracy is skyrocketing once again and we have no idea why”.

    Better than Paramount.

    I was hoping for Comcast (🤮) due to them having Universal Studios Theme Parks… or perhaps Apple since they have little content and probably would do a better job with the IPs.

    But again, better than Paramount.
