Is this anywhere near as big of a deal as this article is making it out to be though, or is this pure sensationalism? Have there historicaly ever been any reports of marijuana users mysteriously getting lead poisoning? People have been smoking weed for hundreds of years and now suddenly it’s a source of lead poisoning? This seems like someone grasping at straws to try and keep weed illegal while alcohol which is considerably more harmful in almost every possible way remains widely available at every grocery store and gas station…

I mean, they did the tests and proved the metals are there. Beyond that though, I don’t remeber reading anything about lead poisoning. Someone saying lead poisoning is a danger from smoking weed would be very wrong indeed, but to someone like my stepfather who micromamanages his body, this kind of stuff is important.

Googly thingy feels that .8 mcg/DL is normal-ish (it’s a little vague), study says marijuana users average 1.3 (a roughly 50% increase), and around 25 is lethal.

So normal amount is roughly 3% lethal, and marijuana use bumps it to 5% lethal… How big a deal that is would be subjective. Id say not big.

Article doesn’t seem very sensatonalist to me… amount wise, it just says “statistically significantly higher exposure”, which is true, and doesn’t really drum up any “ooh scary” or anything like that. The numbers are significant in terms of comparison, but the overall risk at the significantly elevated levels isn’t alarming in my opinion and I don’t think the article is trying to state or even imply that. There isn’t a single suggestion or implication that someone might die from lead poisoning because of marijuana use. It’s more a recommendation that quality standards be implemented.

Kinda implies the FDA should be the gatekeepers… I think that’s a wildly horrible idea unless you want some big Megabucks entity to basically purchase a monopoly on weed federally… Seems like the FDAs general playbook on shit, but that’s just my opinion.

There’s no good amount of lead. It’s just bad for you. If a population has levels elevated over background, that’s bad, and we should figure out why.
