State 24 - Mississippi

MS Wildlife Rehabilitation - Coldwater, MS

Mississippi seems to be another state that doesn’t separate out raptor care. The few resources I did see generally led to links that were redirected or just not very useful. It seems the Jackson Zoo does rehab and release work in partnership with smaller places, buttt there want much really available info.

I did find a few education ambassadors at MSWR though. They have a Barn Owl named Athena, a Barred Owl named Marshmallow, and our guest of the day, Rofius the Screech Owl.

Rufous can to the center in 2014. He had gotten a nasty whack from a car and his wing did but heal properly, so he wasn’t able to fly.

The website looks kinda up to date, and theFacebook seems regularly updated with events. It looks like they have a Trunk or Treat event coming up. They also mentioned sponsoring a bird would get you a private meet and greet, but I didn’t see further info. It sounds like a fun opportunity if that would be something you’re interested in.

          I like all animals

That’s what I like to hear!

Good to see the Tytonidae (Barn Owl family) get some love. I’ve learned there are more species of them in the Southern Hemisphere, so I plan to post some of them coming up.
