Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday any British soldiers training Ukrainian troops in Ukraine would be legitimate targets for Russian forces, as would German factories producing Taurus missiles should they supply Kyiv.

Wait. I’m confused. I thought Russia claimed they were at war with NATO, which if true would mean British soldiers in Britain would be legitimate targets, not just in Ukraine.

But now Medvedev is saying they’ll only target British soldiers when they’re in Ukraine, which means he’s saying Russia isn’t at war with NATO.

That’s weird. Almost as if they don’t actually believe half of the crap they say.

But hey. Who cares? Honesty is overrated in international diplomacy, especially between antagonistic nuclear powers. What’s the worst that could happen?

Oh, deary me, then Britain would have no choice but to set up systems authorized to fire on Russian forces to defend themselves

Like, do they not see how that would end up worse for them than for Britain?

as would German factories producing Taurus missiles should they supply Kyiv.

At this point I’m ready for article 5. This has gone on too long, it’s time to end it. The Kremlin won’t use nukes and commit suicide because of a failed land grab in the Donbas.

I agree. The people concerned about nuclear war are misguided, though understandably so, considering that a .0001% chance of complete nuclear annihilation is still a chance of complete nuclear annihilation.

God, please do something incredibly stupid, Russia, and save thousands of Ukrainian lives.

Misguided by propaganda. The Kremlin desperately wants people to believe they’d start a nuclear war.

I don’t think he’s wrong on the targeting the British troops part. They’re entering a war zone.

I mean, they’re wrong for the whole war. But from a point of view that there already is a war, I do get his point that he could target the British troops who are in the war zone.

Not sure the targeting German factories in Germany is correct though, regardless of who they supply.

Perhaps Russia could start by targeting Russia for supplying Ukraine with tanks.

Russia just shot down one of Russia’s migs last week, so you may be on to something.

They can do a lot of things, but it definitely won’t be a good idea to attack British citizens that are not directly participating.

Oh no, it definitely wouldn’t be a good idea. I’m just saying that for this one, they do actually have a point. Should they follow through? Absolutely not. Will they? I highly doubt it…

As a British citizen I also don’t want the UK dragged in to this war

If entering a war zone means they are targets, I’d argue that means they should be allowed to take as much AA equipment as needed to defend themselves.

Sure. And any country whos soldiers target british soldiers are legitimate targets.
