    Just say nearly 1 mile high. Why are reporters so averse to standard measurements?

      5,280 feet is 1,584 Canada geese stacked on top of each other for our neighbors up north unfamiliar with imperial units.

      Where is the problem? It says “1600 meter”, which is perfectly fine and easy to scale. Initially, I was worried because they started with this “foot” thing while still having the word “science” in their name.

      I’d love to know why. Giving me measurements in units of football fields, elephants, Olympic swimming pools, Empire State Buildings, or Mount Everest are fucking meaningless.

        Just say 1.6 kilometers then. I’m not averse to metric, the measurement was just really close to a mile so I used that.
