I’m not advertising any service. I added an image because Lemmy wouldn’t let me post the question without one. I think I may have chosen the wrong post type or something. Sorry for the confusion.

I’m new to Lemmy so when I tried to post something it said I need an image so I just picked a random one which looked vaguely like self hosting AI

And move SSH to a non-default port. Without that, my public-facing servers get thousands of SSH attacks a day, and it basically goes to zero after moving it to a random-looking high port.

Also, totally agree with using public key login and disable password login.

What’s happening in Palestine and the position people and world governments take on it is a litmus test of good vs evil.

Absolutely true, but it’s getting much more blatant and easier to see now than it has been over the last decades

That’s one way to align America’s interest with Ukraine’s

ElSeyed clearly won IMO. It’s telling that the biggest attack against him was “he may be a terrorist” and “his PhD MD doesn’t officially allow him to practice medicine”

First, I don’t think people are falling for the “every Muslim is a terrorist” accusation any more. And second, he’s not running to be a doctor, he’s running for Senate.

Yep, have been using KeyPass or KeyPassX for at least a decade now and just syncing across all machines (via syncthing). 100% reliable in my experience.

Congratulations on being able to run an completely ethical business - it can’t be easy. I say that non-sarcastically.

I think one of the many issue which has lead to the state we are in now is that it’s often impossible to tell the true quality or value of a product before buying it. So simply buying something more expensive is no guarantee of a better product, because the optimal strategy for an unethical business is to sell the cheapest possible product at the highest possible volume x price.

This is interesting to me from a consequence perspective. I think hitting datacenters is going to be the next big thing. I just posted the following in another thread:

Louisiana’s new META datacenter is estimated to cost $140-$250 billion dollars once fully deployed (~$100B for the AI accelerators alone) [1]. Imagine being able to destroy $140B-$250B with a missile strike! There would be ripples through the whole world economy.

[1] Sample price info source where cost can be extrapolated: https://epoch.ai/data/ai-data-centers/directory/meta-hyperion Scaling its $61.8 billion projection from 1.63 GW to the full 5 GW produces approximately $189 billion.

How is this a punishment? I think public sentiment in Britain (and almost everywhere else in the world) would prefer it if the embassy was closed completely.

The mental gymnastics required to see Israel as the good guys are mind boggling.

Are there ever any actual consequences for this sort of thing? I understand when enemies spy against each other, but what happens when allies do it?

You would think this would change the relationship, but you see it happening over and over again with no noticeable response.
