I don’t think it’s money, it’s legitimacy. Protecting lesbians was a long-standing terf talking point because lesbians have long been treated as at the vanguard of feminism (often true) and as the pure expression of feminism (not true, we’re just women who are only into women). I see this as far more of a harbinger of terfs returning to demonizing the lavender menace, partly because cis lesbians have been defending trans women for many decades, but also as cultural transphobia is progressing to general queerphobia (like we always said it would) she’s adding homophobic elements to her rhetoric as opposed to merely being passively uncomfortable with women’s lusting after women (feminist lesbophobia often has manifested as our love is pure and our lust is predatory)
