    So much of the industry revolves around who can schmooze the most lucrative investment pool. Making a quality game is incidental, as executives get paid (and staff get fired) based on the capital the project raises more than the revenue it brings in. By the time a game goes live, the future revenue stream has long since been financialized and sold off to speculators.

    Since cheap lending stems from the proximity to the Federal Reserve rate and the bulk of development is functionally free (all the modern popular genres are just derivatives of mods from the 90s/00s), the people who are most valuable to a development company are the ones who can borrow for their project at the highest volume (for spending on ads) and the lowest marginal rate (for getting the best return on the future revenue stream).

    Its all just a numbers game where you gamble on the next popular reskinned MOBA.
