Misogynist men said the said thing about feminism in the 1950s.

They literally already said they weren’t looking to convert to veganism for moral reasons, so I don’t know what point you think you’re making.

There was a willing ally in the reduction of meat consumption and the mainstreaming of vegan options, but the vegan community they encountered decided that insufficient orthodoxy was reason enough to encourage their ‘carnist’ enemy to go back to murdering animals for food.

If someone in 1918 says, “I don’t think women are equal, but I do think they deserve the vote”, the correct response is not to attack them; it’s to make common cause with them until women get the vote - and fuck, that they’re already ahead of the curve may mean that they can be swayed by the positions of their new allies.

But many online vegans (and I specify online, since the only vegans I’ve met irl have been pretty nice folks, even to a ‘carnist’ like me) treat it as a religion, a fashion; an identity.

Meat is murder - but murder, apparently, is preferable to wrongthink.
