Manchester City are exploring a deal to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers before the summer transfer window closes.City are looking to strengthen in midfield after their efforts to secure West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta was derailed by a Football Association (FA) investigation over potential betting breaches. The treble winners have also been depleted by the loss of Kevin De Bruyne to a hamstring injury, which required surgery that could see him spend up to four months on the sidelines.City are considering a small number of candidates to fill the void and Portugal international Nunes is high among them. The 24-year-old joined Wolves from Sporting Lisbon last summer on a five-year contract with the option of a sixth and was soon linked with a move to Liverpool, which did not materialise. He has played 41 games for the Molineux club, who are unlikely to welcome City’s interest so close to the summer market closing. But Wolves’ financial position could make it difficult to resist bids of a certain level for Nunes, especially if his sale would provide funds to bolster their squad in multiple areas.Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace is another attacking midfielder on City’s recruitment list as they decide a preferred option to pursue.
Nunes was playing really well in the first 2 matches (outside of the foolish red card). I don’t think they can find a suitable replacement with only 1 week remaining, I hope this deal does not happen.
