The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to make LA a sanctuary city for immigrants, including prohibiting city resources from being used for any federal immigration enforcement.

    Legal immigration is great. The problem with cities not enforcing immigration policy is that it can lead to:

    • Increased crime
      • People entering the country aren’t background checked and processed
    • Increased underpaid or unpaid workers in poor working conditions
      • They aren’t legal citizens, so unfortunately don’t have much in the way of legal rights
    • Increased strain on social programs
      • This lowers resource availability for the legal citizens that depend on those programs and pay taxes to fund them.
