For example how do we avoid having unique Ask Lemmy communities on each instance?

I’m brand new to Lemmy and trying to figure out if it will fill the reddit void.

    I can understand smaller instances doing it, but the problem is that we don’t really have “middle scale” instances yet to fill that niche between what amount to very small friend/interest groups in a little microniche and the giant behemoth of either of the Lemmy instances or even the Beehaw instance.

    There are room for smaller instances that mainly just want to pull down copies of information for their own little groups to discuss and they’re a completely different type of community than something like lemmy.world, despite both of them still existing within the same technology framework.
