I’m more of a baseball fan with a very basic understanding of cricket rules. From my point of view, I did get the references as a pitcher/bowler to induce the general direction in which you want the hitter/batsman to hit the ball (preferrably to an area with fielders), use the ground/ballpark quirks to your advantage and the skill needed to hit a ball to a specific fielder. That last hit for Dusty was just enough for her to catch it without being too easy.
