Here are some of the popular websites I’ve come across where you can find web fiction. If you have any other suggestion please leave them in the comments.

  • Royal Road - Mostly original fiction but also contains some fan fiction. Has a lot of LitRPG, isekai, progression fantasy and a bit of xianxia.
  • Archive of Our Own (aka AO3) - Archive of Our Own (often shortened to AO3) is a nonprofit open source repository for fanfiction and other fanworks contributed by users. It also contains some original fiction.
  • Webnovel - a pay-to-read web fiction website, mostly with translated chinese stories. Usually there will be a few free chapters and you will receive some free credits daily that will let you read the paid chapters. There are websites like BoxNovel which hosts the stories for free.
  • Wattpad - a social storytelling platform, the most popular genres on this site are romance, YA, teen and fantasy/scifi
  • FanFiction.net - similar to AO3
  • FictionPress - a fiction archive, a spin-off of FanFiction.net for original fiction
  • Scribble Hub
  • Sufficient Velocity - forum for fiction, in particular “Quest Roleplays” - a variation on play-by-post roleplaying where the Quest Master (QM) provides a story that includes a voting system for participants to decide how the actions in the scene is resolved
  • Top Web Fiction - a community-run listing of online serials and other fiction by indie authors
