The pilots I know are all working for the budget airline Ryanair (but not all with Irish contracts). I can’t say anything about what a pilot earns in the US.
They describe themselves as bus drivers. Yes, it’s more complex, there is a higher training level but not really skill. The biggest barrier is the cost of entry.
And being well above a national median salary hardly makes someone rich. Sure if you make 90k living in a backwater you might be better off than most people around you, but try buying a house in Dublin with a 90k salary
