I want space just for me; not shared or communal but entirely isolated and private where I alone set the rules and am free within them. I want to be able to drop the mask, unstring my tension, and stop performing for the world. I want to be me, not worried if someone will see the monster within and start gathering pitchforks and torches.

That said, I also want space to have friends, guests, family, and community. Without that we are all just lonely hermits trapped in an isolation of our own making. I want to invite neighbors over to eat, to rest, to celebrate, and to commune. I want to sing their victories and wallow in their tragedies.

I need my Dr. Jekyll to be a member of the community and my Mr. Hyde to be able to walk freely because they are both me and I deserve to be me.

Could space be used more effectively? Probably, but it has to be both types or we must forsake parts of ourselves.
