As long as there is a drop-down arrow on posts and comments to see the old versions. Otherwise, you get the same problem that Amazon has with listings for products that got good ratings being changed to another product in order to dupe the end-user. In a Lemmy context, that would be like having a post that had great content and a large amount of upvotes and replacing it maliciously with something bad like propaganda.
