OK so this isn’t easy to answer.

First off, we haven’t spent that much up until these past few years, and even then it’s not like we are outspending everyone around us by a huge margin. In fact Newcastle, Nottingham, West Ham, and Man U all had higher net spends in 22/23 and we only spent 25m more than Tottenham.

Second, up until recently our wage bill was low compared to other top 6 teams and we are now 4 just behind Liverpool. This gave us a little more freedom to spend on fees and we weren’t paying high wages.

Third, we have that sweet CL money. This extra income will allow us to spend a little more freely then we have in the past.

Lastly. United have spent close to 1b in transfers over the last decade and the owners are siphoning money out of club, whereas our owners are injecting money back into the club. As far as I’m aware all of the other teams owned by the Kroenke’s have won championships lately and we are the only one who hasn’t. It’s in their best interest to ensure their investment continues its on field success so that the value of the team can continue to grow as well.
