It’s estimated that between 1,000 and 1,200 settlers surrounded the village, and around 500 stormed it just after midday local time on Friday, blocking all the roads in the area.
According to Abu-Alia [head of the village council], the Israeli military arrived at the scene at around 3 p.m. local time, but did not stop the settlers from attacking the village. Instead, Israeli soldiers allowed them to raid homes, prevented Palestinian residents from moving around and blocked ambulances from reaching the injured, he alleged.
Israeli security forces had informed Palestinian officials that the settlers were looking for an Israeli teenager who had gone missing earlier in the day.
Israel certainly wants to drag all Jews under it’s umbrella. There are attempts to say Jewish = Israeli = Zionist but those should be resisted. In December the US Congress passed a bill that “clearly and firmly states that anti-Zionism is antisemitism” and Netanyahu has said the same many times. However there is a wealth of evidence that it’s just not true. As I pointed out, there are many examples of Jews who oppose the current Israeli policy and I don’t think they need to be shamed but rather celebrated since they are the evidence that Israel doesn’t represent nearly all Jews.
Here’s a short video of Jewish Congressman Jerry Nadler stating that trying to equate anti-Zionism with antisemitism is “either intellectually disingenuous or factually wrong” with accompanying arguments. Here’s a story where a Jewish woman relates her Holocaust-survivor mother was always ashamed of what Israel did to Palestinians. I think there’s an attempt to make Jewish people of conscience ashamed of what Israel is doing, but I don’t agree with it. I admire Jews willing to demand ethical treatment of people, Palestinian or otherwise. There are a lot of them who speak out even when it brings personal consequences. It’s true there is definitely shame to be felt by those that support Israeli crimes and apartheid policy, but that’s not exclusive to Jews or any ethnicity/nationality.
