One of the benefits of these longer term contracts is it proves to Russia that they can’t just wait-out lethal aid. That the west will not simply ‘get bored’.
The west would get bored if US troops were suffering casualties.
Since no Americans are at risk, we can just let the Military Industrial Complex go brrrrrr just like we spent the USSR into bankruptcy.

I guess it’s good there is an easy way to sell these investments to the government decision makers (militarily weaker russia) in addition to the moral justifications (helping a country defend from an aggressor)
Additionally, after just solution is hopefully achieved at some point, Ukraine is not going to be leaning towards the east in the future.
