Until 2003, Godspeed You! Black Emperor had a cellist, Norsola Johnson, which I think gave them a very unique sound especially in the album linked (Lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven). However, while they do have a violin in the new albums, the sound is quite different.
What other bands use cello? This patch of sky is one (and fantastic), but they disbanded in 2019. Gregor Samsa used to have one but they swapped to violin as well (and their style was very different anyway). Three Silver MtZion doesn’t have their cellist anymore as well.
I would recommend Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson. They use cello too, although it’s just one of plenty other sounds in their music. It’s still great though, I love them.

Also Neil on Impression where cello has a bit more important role (IMO).
Thanks! I didn’t like much Youth due to the vocals and the amount of different sounds, it was too confusing for me. But Neil on Impression is fantastic. Like a noisier and more deep/bass Yndi Halda, which I love. Speciallt “Il faro e la balena”.
You’re welcome :-)
I’ve definitely heard more post-rock bands with cello, but can’t remember right now.
I remembered another one that might fit in - Balmorhea. It’s sometimes drifting a bit towards folk or acoustic music, sometimes somewhere else, but I still like it.
I recently went to God Is An Astronaut live show in Krakow. Their support was Ef - Swedish Post Rock band and they had a male cellist playing with them.
They sound awesome, thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_QGrQN0uKM
