Ex-operations director Joshua Powell settled civil claims of fraud and abuse.
Former National Rifle Association operations director Joshua Powell has settled civil claims of fraud and abuse brought by the New York Attorney General’s office.
The admission comes hours after Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the NRA, announced his resignation ahead of a trial scheduled to begin Monday. LaPierre cited health reasons, according to the NRA. The resignation will be effective Jan. 31.
Powell was employed by the NRA from 2016 through January 2020 and in that time “Powell breached his fiduciary duties and failed to administer the charitable assets entrusted to his care by using his powers as an officer and senior executive of the NRA to convert charitable assets for his own benefit and for the benefit of his family members,” the settlement agreement said.
In b4 conservatives complain this is a waste of taxpayer dollar$.
What is with this new obsession with fiscal responsibility now that all their criminal representatives are on trial?
Literally every single penny that was embezzled came out of conservative pockets… Fiscal responsibility includes not giving money to fraudsters.
Don’t ask me why trump gets a pass, I’m not actually a Conservative (I could be called a liberal, but only in the international version of the term, Democrats aren’t liberals in my opinion) and I have no fucking idea why the maga folks don’t see the blatant bufoonery that trump brings to finances. They aren’t actually stupid for the most part, they just got jonestown syndrome over the fucker or something.
Good thing there’s no history of any shady dealings prior, otherwise people might get ideas.
Grifters gonna grift

NRA has been rife with corruption since its very beginning, but whatcha gonna do. It’s their organization, it’s their money to misuse if they see fit. Same with the church, lots of abuse of money but, who’s gonna do anything about it? As long as people get what they feel they need from it.
Not since the beginning.
No.
The start of the “rife with corruption” was in 1968 when Harlan Carter staged a coup to seize control of the organization. Before that, it was pretty chill.
Another thing to blame Reagan for
I mean, not really?
Harlan Carter was head of the border patrol under Eisenhower (and was an unrepentant racist murderer).
He joined the NRA while it was still a sports shooting organization, and got sidelined and sort of forced out, so he paid for a bunch of people to attend the 1968 conference, and used those people to vote and change the organization leadership to himself (and his gun manufacturer backers).
Reagan had nothing to do with it. He was governor of California at the time.
Yup. Before Harlan Carter, the NRA was a gun safety and training org.
Man I hope Wayne sees prison.
I don’t know a huge amount about the NRA, but it is my understanding based on things I’ve heard from people far my senior is that back in the 50s, the NRA was mainly focused on gun safety and training and didn’t spend a lot of time lobbying.
Putting aside the inaccuracies about NRA, just because it’s their organization doesn’t make embezzlement and misappropriation of funds less of a crime. You can’t take donations on a fraudulent basis, and you can’t be a tax free organization without following the rules.
Sounds good.
