    Explanation: The sculpture depicted is meant to represent the Brothers Gracchi, a couple of extremely dangerous subversives in the Late Roman Republic who drew the ire of conservatives by… [checks notes] suggesting that letting the poor starve and be reduced to slaves in their own country was a bad thing.

    For this reason, both brothers were unlawfully killed by conservatives in the Senate, despite the Gracchi being sacrosanct and democratically elected officials.

      Interestingly, the consolidation of farmlands and estates into the hands of a few elites was one of the contributors of the empire’s fall.

      Something that definitely has no parallels in the developed world today…
