A man who allegedly waved the flag of a terrorist group while marching in downtown Toronto has been arrested and charged.
I am genuinely curious what the flag was.
I have seen in my life in Ontario flags of all sorts, and yes, many hate flags. Nazi symbolism, isis, hamas even in the past and never heard of any hate based arrests before.
IT has become an almost meme that “freedom” protests seem to always bring a swastika or two to the party, and yet, never any arrests.
this is curious to me as to what flag specifically did the police deem warranted the arrest this time around, despite our previous lackadaisical behaviour towards hate symbols.
Likely was Hamas or something if I had to guess.
Probably, but it’s weird. I’ve seen Hamas flags at rallies already with zero police response. We’ve seen videos of masked Hamas supporters down town issues threats, with zero police action.
So it just seems a little weird to suddenly now action it. I’m all for removing these hate symbols. Just wondering exactly what triggered it NOW instead of years of it (Seeing Pro-Hamas messaging is not new post Oct7th, just ramped up)
I’d also love to see the same thing happen to anyone waving Nazi flags, or white supremacist messaging too.
I’m wondering if it’s just this rally specifically because they’re protesting near a Jewish neighbourhood in TO. There’s been some news related to this protest in particular in the past week. Whether they apply these rules equally to white supremacist Nazi shitheads this could just be used as the rationale to shut it down. The law is rarely applied equally. This seems like a “make example of” situation.
I’m totally onboard with criticizing Israel’s completely bonkers campaign in Gaza but also leave civilians in Canada who have nothing to do with it alone.
