NBC News projects that former President Donald Trump is the winner of the 2024 Iowa caucuses, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has come in second.

Donald Trump has won the Iowa caucuses, NBC News projects, cementing his firm status as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump, who is aiming to be the first former president since Grover Cleveland in the 1890s to return to office after losing re-election to a second consecutive term, scored a record-breaking showing Monday in the first contest of 2024.

He will receive a majority of the vote, NBC News projects, and his final margin of victory will surpass the 13 points that Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas won by in the 1996 Republican caucuses. And Trump’s commanding performance is the strongest sign yet that there is no decisive demand for an alternative as the race shifts to next week’s New Hampshire primary.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, meanwhile, prevailed over former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley in what became the more closely watched battle for second place. But there is no guarantee that such a distant finish will afford him anything resembling momentum.

He didn’t easily win, lol. He only got half the GOP vote (which, imo is still too much). But it does show how weak his influence is getting.

Edit: This article is sucking Trump’s dick, hard.

Trump beat Ron Desantis by well over double

In 2020, it was Pete Butigeig by ~0.1%, above Sanders. Beating current president Joe Biden by about 11%. Pete had 26.2% of votes.

That being said like it or not, Trump won easily. However, the election is far from over. Because Joe Biden was at 11% last year and he is president.

I’m not saying I am pro Trump. I’m just starting facts.

      Go out and vote!

Only 18% of the GOP voted. He received 50% of those votes. It’s not a crazy amount of people at all, man. I’m just stating facts, too.

I’m not honestly sure where to find he 2020 results for that from the Democrats. I do know that the news sites stated it was likw -4f degrees out and likely may dissuade some voters. Which may have caused a lower turnout than normal.

In several places, it’s more like -40.

            It certainly affected turnout.

But caucus numbers are always off from gen election results.

I believe it was one of, maybe the largest wins in the history of the caucus. So you are understating how big of a win it was.

Honestly, good. Let Republicans dig their own grave. Trump is the only one I think Biden can beat.

Indeed. It’s a bit of a high-stakes gamble, but given that Republican control of the American government would be disastrous even if it isn’t Trump himself on the throne I think it’s probably the right risk to take.
