The city of Denver is on the hook for the money, no accountability for the dept or the officers. And by no accountability, I mean none at all.

It’s like someone with a rich dad getting a parking ticket. Daddy’s always going to pay for it, it’s not their money, so who gives a shit? They’re going to keep double parking in the handicap spots until they get towed or someone keys the fuck out of their car.
Even after being towed or keyed, they’ll just get another car (department next town/county over) and keep on doing it
Taxpayers on the hook for yet another colossal police fuckup.
Qualified Immunity needs to go, police need actual oversight, and cops should have to carry insurance.
I wish these articles would contain lists of officers and who the lead was who fucked it up so unbelievably badly that it cost their city 3.7 million.
These people should become unemployable pariahs. They should be humiliated by their peers and mocked openly by the public for being monstrous garbage human beings.
The other parents at the PTA meeting should whisper about them with rude looks and faces twisted with disgust. They should be asked not stay away from public activities out of respect for other people who they might make uncomfortable.
They should be treated like the selfish and reckless addicts that they are. We should be able to build a public list of police officers that unapologetically fuck up.

Yeah. That would happen in the armed forces. They’re not military, they’re highly privileged civilians.
This is also interesting in that the far more commonly heard story on social media is when the theft victim is the poster, and the police refuse to take action to help recover their property even though they have the Find My Phone on the thief’s location.
I mean, they tracked the phone using Find My, but it was only one of several things that were stolen. The article says the victim’s truck was stolen, which had multiple firearms, like $4k in cash, some drones, and their phone. So police tracked the phone (more so to find the stolen guns, because they absolutely didn’t want those getting sold untracked,) but could only get an approximate location. The location spanned 6 houses across 4 blocks, but they just chose to raid hers for some reason instead of actually investigating all six houses further.
Good on her for filing and winning against that assault on her home.
During all that mess did anyone investigate the adjoining properties in a non-SWAT way? Because if the iPhone pinged there it was likely nearby.
These awards and settlements really need to start coming out of the police unions. That’s the only way to start getting cops to hold each other accountable.
