So I guess the plan is for the current government to step down and become caretakers until new elections. Meanwhile, the Kenyan military will move in as peace keepers. Which right now means busting heads and throwing people back in jail. US to provide money to Kenya and to food for Haiti.

Kenya is one of the major supplier of UN Peacekeeping forces. It’s not at all unusual for Kenyan forces to be involved in something like this, anywhere in the world.

And for better or for worse, optics matter. You really don’t think that the US military moving in wouldn’t bring a storm of controversy and accusations of neo-colonialism?

Technically the US military did move in. But it was only to get Americans the fuck out of there.

I’m no cartographer, but I’m almost positive that there are countries other than Cuba which are closer to Haiti than Kenya…

The US has taken this new role of fighting proxy wars instead of full on conflict with boots on the ground.

The other countries in the vicinity may not have the troops to perform an active invasion.

Besides, Kenya consists of mostly black people, which is what Haiti consists of, so nobody can claim racism can they? /s

The cheaper option definitely would have been for the FBI to arrest the arms dealers when they came to them with the plan to oust Moïse.
