Thank you @this_is_box for stepping up. What can we do to build this community and get the engagement going? What do you want to see regularly?
Thanks Richie.
First of all, I don’t intend making rules that don’t reflect what the community wants. There are a couple of bits that probably deserve discussion and consideration as the community grows.
Memes - currently this isn’t a problem at all, and I love a good meme as much as the next person. However if it looks like we are at risk of being flooded by low effort shit posting and memes we may want to look at pointing these posters to a different community or make one specially for it.
Spoilers - there is a different website, not too dissimilar from this one, that doesn’t allow spoilers in post titles for 24hrs after a fight. This probably deserves discussion.
Streams - I don’t know the ramifications to letting people post streams so will take a very conservative approach until I know what is allowed and what isn’t. Again, this may be more appropriate in a specific community made for it.
Anything else?
edit: I’ve pinned this as this seems like a good post to discuss where we want to see the community go.
Hi mate, from me
I think you’re spot on with memes, let’s see how it runs out, if memes got out of hand we could dedicate a day in the week as engagement will always be lower on a weekday. We’re a long way from worrying about it for now.
24 hours no spoiler rule works well in the other place as it means people won’t stay away if they want to avoid the results.
Illegal stream links are probably risky and I’d imagine not worth the hassle, there are plenty of open places where a bit of searching will get people what they want. Not worth risking the community getting taken down for it as if it became a hot bed for complaints from big companies, I doubt lemmy.world is in a position to fight them. I think we should push for legal streams of all fights to be advertised where they a free to watch.
The biggest engagement is generally driven from live fight threads, I don’t know how technical you are but a bot that sets them up and pins them would ensure we don’t miss any events whilst you are the only moderator. If we could get that for weigh-ins and press conferences as well we could push further engagement, especially if we could pin them early so people will come here to see what’s on.
Another risk is people just posting a shit load of Eddie Hearn interviews lol.
I think having set pinned discussions threads on each week day could be fun once we get a few more users. Meme Mondays (shit banter encouraged, Wilder/AJ/Fury/Canello/Tank fan boys can thrash it out in a safe space) , Training Tuesdays (Amateurs and Boxing Fitness Enthusiasts training plans, meal prep, etc), When Wednesdays (Quiz day), Thriller Thursdays (GOATs, historic fights, etc), Pre-Fight Night Fridays.
Absolutely brilliant input, thank you.
I’ll enforce the 24hr rule then.
Anything more complex than IFTTT is beyond my technical ability. We can see how it goes with people posting their own fight threads for now and I love the idea of pinned daily threads.
I only signed up as mod to get it off the banned account so if yourself or anyone else fancies pitching in and volunteering as mod I’m really receptive to that. I appreciate that it’s a fairly thankless task though so no pressure.
@[email protected] has been made mod.
