Kelly, elected in March 2023 – succeeding longtime office holder Dusty Rhodes – has been grappling with serious health issues, she said in a March 21 news release. She plans to step down from her position effective at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 27.

Kelly, a Democrat from Hyde Park and a former state representative, is floating current State Rep. Jessica Miranda, D-Forest Park, as the next county auditor. Miranda has served in the statehouse since 2018 and was elected by her peers to serve as the Ohio House Democratic Whip. In 2022, she was recognized as a Forty Under 40 winner by the Business Courier.
