The year is 2024 and my evening is free. I’m watching Babylon 5.

Why 2003 when the N64 came out on 1996?

Phone my mate and get him over for a game of GoldenEye. Then fight over who gets to be odd job…

We eventually had to rule out oddjob for regular games. Always offered it to the friend who hadn’t played much before to even the playing field a bit.

Friends and I early on realized shootouts weren’t much fun and between armor camping and odd-job it was just lame. We always played one shot kills and it equalized everything, even Odd-job–Theoretically smaller target but never was an issue. Then it didn’t matter much if you had an ar33 against a pp7, you still had to treat opponents like their bullets were real.

One shot kills still couldn’t make up for how fucking terrible that lawnmower engine Klobb was. Give me a pistol any day over that hunk of shit. Knives. Anything.

My sister just told me earlier this afternoon that I need to hook up our childhood N64 because she wants to play GoldenEye 007 again.

You can play it in the N64 app on the switch, too. It’s not gonna be what you remember though without a CRT monitor / TV.

It looks pretty incredible upscaled through emulation actually. I know it’s not the same as playing on original hardware, but I was really surprised by how good it looks.

Start a playthrough of Ocarina of Time, followed immediately by Majora’s Mask on subsequent evenings.

Just run around in the Majora’s Mask save I’ve long since 100% completed for a few hours until I get bored. And then F-Zero X. The mode where you just drive on a straight loop-de-loop track and kill all the other vehicles for another few hours.

I didn’t have a N64 back in the days, but I usually re-visit it through emulation, one title that has always interested me but I played it so little is Balst Corps, it seems like the kind of game that you just play to have fun and not think too much.
