The system is just an assortment of parts from Home Depot more or less.
The system is designed to take plants to harvest, but I also use it to get my spring starters going which is the task this weekend.
I do add nutrients to the water, and it sprays on a 30 second on, and 5 minute off cycle. First time doing tomatoes, did peppers as a test a few months ago.

sorry for replying with a choice i make: if a plant needs all this effort to grow or survive, it doesn’t need to live where i live.
I seed directly in or on the soil in the garden. If you keep the seeds from your survivors, with time you end up with a variety that doesn’t need babying.
I live in a place that barely gets a 90 day growing period, so I need to have established plants on May 28 to put in the ground, or I’m not going to have a harvest at all.
This is meant for something else, but I can also use it to supplement my outdoor garden. Carrots, peas, radishes, they can all go seed to soil.
Some people aren’t as lucky with their grow periods and need to get creative, I have equipment I can use to help that along. Most of my starters will in fact be in soil or a plug to go to the garden.
after walking away from my comment, i thought about a scandinavian gardener that i follow and how it would be impossible to garden the way i do if i lived further north.
here, i would never be able to grow aubergines, peanuts unless i use a greenhouse (i don’t. needs too much care in the summer)

It’s all good, I wish I could grow more outside and do compost or even a no-till style garden as well, there’s just too much going on in my life.
Ideally I would like a greenhouse or even a hot house so it can be outside in natural light and I could grow all year as well.
It’s interesting that some places even have microclimates, gourds can be grown in a couple communities around my city, I’m not one of them since I’m down in a valley. Although I’m going to try again to make pumpkins for the kids to Halloween, but… that’s 6-8 weeks past first frost. If you cover them every night you can get a couple more weeks as well though.
