This makes me miss my rats. Looks you like also have the critter Nation Cage.

Kids (human) take our time now, but maybe when there’s no toddler we get back into the game!

I think rats make an excellent first pet. Guinea pigs and hamsters are boring. Def gotta wait til your kids know not to throw them tho haha.

I have rats and guinea pigs, rats are crazier (but pigs are still crazy) but at least you don’t have to wait for a pig to be senior before they sit still.

I wouldn’t recommend as a first pet. Rats are super smart and need stimulation. I think young kids would do better with a pet that’s not dependent on them, like something that can roam free.

Source: had a pet rat as a kid and did not give it a great life, which is a shame.

Did’t mean for the rat to be entirely the kids’ responsibilities. I wouldn’t want any young kid to be fully responsible for taking care of any animal.

Also I recommend at least two rats.
