a powerful surveillance tool the U.S. government describes as critical to combating terrorism

If the US government could please stop pretending that it’s October 2001 and we don’t all know that the “War on Terror” is inherently unwinnable and self-perpetuating, that would be nice…

You know how you ACTUALLY decrease terrorism? By not radicalising people by murdering and torturing everyone they know for no good reason!

Disclaimer in case it’s necessary: terrorism is not justifiable under any circumstances, nor are the monstrous state actions that inspire terrorism.

It’s self-perpetuating. Terrorism never stops happening somewhere in the world, so the government can always argue that they need to keep their tools that they say fights terrorism.

And I won’t be at all surprised if they try to increase their power exponentially now that Israeli genocide has likely created plenty of people willing to get revenge on both Israel and the U.S.

Yeah, trying to fight terrorism with state terrorism only exacerbates the problem and I don’t think it’s too tinfoil hatty to speculate that there’s a lot of powerful people in both the US, Israel and elsewhere who not only know that but RELY on it to maintain and increase their own power and wealth.

Just like how Hamas and other terrorist organizations become more influential and thus more powerful the more people suffer.

Israeli genocide is also quite apparently vital to our national security.
